What is Web hosting?

Web hosting is renting bandwidth or space through a company (web host) so you may be able to publish your website or blog site on the internet. What is a domain name?

An internet domain name is unique and no two domain names are alike. It is your identity on the internet. A domain name is your website address. If your domain name is SweetMamma.com, then your website address will be http://www.SweetMama.com.

Is my website safe and secure?

Websites, particularly those with unrestricted Internet access, are vulnerable to malicious activity such as unauthorized access and data theft. Some well-known sites such as Microsoft, Apple and even websites of US government agencies have been exposed to attackers and hackers which goes to prove that security of websites and servers can be violated.

What is a secure site?

You normally see the words, logo or box ‘Our website is Secure’ on most websites today. These websites traditionally use SSL or Secure Sockets Layer. The traffic is most likely encrypted too. The little lock in your browser usually appears when a transaction or visit to a website is secure. But unfortunately, the method or this system of encryption does not totally make one website safe and secure.

What is E-commerce?

E-commerce is shortcut for Electronic commerce. It is the term applied to describe the selling of products and services online. Generally, the term e-commerce could be applied to any website created for the purpose of promoting and advertising your products and services. There is no current statistics for the number of e-commerce websites. There are probably millions of them online- small, medium and large scaled e-commerce sites. E-commerce has become a norm in “shopping” these days. A customer can literally browse thousands of products on line that are not limited to his geographical location. He can place an order, select the shipping method and pay for his purchase through any online account like Paypal or pay directly to the site by using his credit card.

What do I need to set up an e-commerce website?

You need to answer the following questions in order to assess what kind of e-commerce site you need. Do you have a product or service that you can sell? You have to determine the feasibility of your goods. What items will you be selling? How many items are you selling? Are they products that need to be shipped or can they be downloaded from the e-commerce site itself? If the products are to be shipped is the shipping fee included with the price of the product or is it separate transaction? You need to consider if your inventory changes every so often because here lays the need for you to update your products every so often.

What is SEO?

A lot of hype has been placed on Search Engine Optimization. Rightly so because SEO is important for your site to place in search engine searches. SEO, simply put is the application of different methods to make your website accessible to search engines and search engine users. The practice of SEO would make it easy for them to find your website. There are plenty of SEO techniques that you can use for your website for it to be “search engine friendly” thereby increasing your chances of placing in the top position in search results. Without proper SEO, you do not maximize your site’s potential to place high in search engine result page (SERPs).

Does every website need SEO?

The answer should probably be YES but it is not. Every website wants to be in the top 10 of search engines’ searches. Why? Because being on top would translate to more visitors in your website. If you have an e-commerce site, the volume of visitors could boost your sale. For regular websites or blogs that are could either be topic oriented or just a hodgepodge of thoughts, the volume of traffic could translate to earnings in terms of advertisements on their sites. However, SEO is highly recommended and is more effective for commercial sites.

What is web design?

Web design generally points out to the construction of web pages. It entails a myriad of tasks to create the front- end of a web page. A web site has two types of presentations: the first is the presentation that the users interacts with (interface) and the second presentation is the one for the non-human browsers i.e. robots. However if what you are after is a fully personalized e-commerce site, then the website construction might take days to finish dependent on your requirements.
